MARK BAYS - SURVIVOR TREE

The City of Toledo and the University of Toledo present guest speaker Mark Bays from the Oklahoma Forestry Service to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the Oklahoma City bombing.
On April 19, 1995, Oklahoma City suffered one of the worst terrorist attacks on American soil. A truck bomb killed 168 people and injured more than 680. The blast radius spread over 16 city blocks, causing $652 million in damages.
Adjacent to the site of the attack stood an 80 year old American Elm, beloved for providing the only shade in the area. Damaged in the blast and showered with debris that included potential evidence, the tree was nearly destroyed.
Join us as Mark Bays, Urban Forestry Coordinator with the Oklahoma Forestry Service, tells the story of Survivor Tree―the story of a tree that is also a story of human resilience, recovery, and the healing of a community. Event will be held at Snyder Memorial, Room 2100; University of Toledo, 2801 W Bancroft St, Toledo OH, 43606.
