Mayor Paula Hicks-Hudson lauded General Motors historical and continuing investment in Toledo as the company announced plans today for an expansion of its Toledo Transmission Plant. GM will invest $667.6 million to support future products to be built in Toledo.
Mayor Hicks-Hudson said that GM’s Toledo Transmission Plant is a major economic driver for our City, currently supporting approximately 2,000 jobs. Including today’s announcement, GM has invested more than $1 billion into the plant since 2011.
Toledo Transmission has earned and maintained a reputation of quality, productivity and performance through the effective partnership of GM Toledo and UAW local 14. The present opportunity is a credit to the facility’s management and workforce. The additional capacity from this new investment also adds to the long-term competitive position of the plant.
Mayor Hicks-Hudson appreciates GM officials’ collaboration with the City administration throughout this several month decision process. The City also appreciates the ongoing cooperation and support of its economic development partners, JobsOhio, the Regional Growth Partnership, Washington Local School District and Lucas County Workforce Development.
