Mayor Hicks-Hudson, US Conference of Mayors Support
Maintaining Tax Exempt Status for Municipal Bonds

Mayor Paula Hicks-Hudson is in Washington, DC through Thursday attending the US Conference of Mayors, helping to protect the tax exemption status of municipal bonds, among other agenda items. Tax free bonds are critical to fund public infrastructure. Municipal bonds fund 87% of public utilities infrastructure projects throughout the nation. “This is a very important issue. In Toledo, the costs to finance the $500 million in upgrades to our water treatment plant would increase by $165 million if all of the bonds were taxable,” said Mayor Hicks-Hudson. “Thankfully, the bonds in place today are tax exempt and we want to ensure the tax free status remains in place in the future.”
