City Sewer Division Begins Citywide Sewer Blitz

Safe, Livable Neighborhoods:

City Sewer Division Begins Citywide Sewer Blitz

Starting Monday, July 18, Sewer & Drainage Services will have all crews work 10-hour days for five days in each Toledo City Council District to maintain and repair sewers, beginning with District 1, for a period of six weeks.

In addition to performing the prioritized maintenance and repairs, crews will also be cleaning ditches and cleaning sanitary and storm lines. Work orders will be coordinated with the Division of Streets, Bridges & Harbor (SB&H) so that street-cut and landscaping restorations can be scheduled directly following repairs. The work in each council district was selected based on a number of factors, including public safety, age of needed repair, and council member requests.

This is a good time of the year to perform this operation because of reduced rainfall as well as no holidays so each district will have five full work days. Sewer & Drainage Services performed its first Sewer Blitz in conjunction with SB&H for 36 days from September 2 to October 29, 2015 with the following results:

  • 154 Total repairs
  • 22 Pipe Patches
  • 51 Inlets Cleaned
  • 47 Basins Cleaned
  • 4 miles of Storm Sewers Jet Cleaned
  • 39 Miles of Sanitary Sewers Jet Cleaned
