City Announces 'Breaking the Cycle of Violence Summit' Registration Opens on Women’s Equality Day

Tuesday, August 26, 2025

The City of Toledo marked Women’s Equality Day 2025 with a press conference announcing the inaugural Breaking the Cycle of Violence Summit and that registration is now open.

The one-day training event will take place Wednesday, Oct. 1 at Imagination Station and is designed for youth, professionals, and community leaders seeking practical tools to address teen dating and gender-based violence.

This year’s theme, Red Flags & Real Talk: Youth and Professionals Raising the Standards for Safe Communities, underscores the importance of youth and professionals working together to create safe environments. Teen dating and domestic violence affect every aspect of young people’s well-being and reverberate throughout the community, influencing education, workforce participation, and health outcomes. No matter the sector, everyone plays a role in ensuring that Toledo’s youth can thrive.

The summit will feature education and training on ending abuse and building safer communities, with sessions on youth-centered service approaches, therapeutic interventions, generational trauma, housing insecurity, and strategies to elevate professional standards and strengthen prevention efforts.

The keynote speaker is Kaila Adia Story, Ph.D., a full professor at the University of Louisville and the Audre Lorde Endowed Chair.

“The City of Toledo is committed to ending violence in our community. This Summit is one of many ways in which Toledo is addressing root causes and systemic responses to gender based violence," Rebecca Facey, Toledo's Chief Prosecutor, said.
