How to Renew Online Permit Application Portal

Renew In-Person or by Mail

Mail: Mail in your application form with a check or money order made payable to “City of Toledo.”

2026 Continuing Education Requirements

The continuing education credits must be submitted before you can apply for a 2026 license renewal. You will receive an email confirmation once the City of Toledo has record, and you will be able to apply for renewal. The best way to check is through the Permit Application Portal.

2026 Electrical License Renewal Code Update Requirement

Effective March 1, 2024, the State of Ohio has adopted the 2023 National Electrical Code (NEC) and will require 2026 Toledo Electrical Journeyman certificate renewal through completing a 10-hour continuing education code update class. You will need to submit a certificate of completion with the 2026 renewal application. The 15-hour NEC 2023 certification offered for the State of Michigan renewal can be substituted.

2024 Home Remodeling Contractor Code Update Requirement

As established by the Board of Control, all home improvement and remodeling contractors licensed with the City of Toledo are required to complete ten hours of continuing education each year. If the licensed contractor does not submit proof of the required hours with their annual license renewal, then they must apply as a new applicant following the requirements listed in Chapter 1313.

Failed to Renew: 2025

You are still able to renew your 2025 license until December 31, 2025 with payment of a late fee. The late fees must be included with the renewal payment.

Payments cannot be made online for any 2025 renewals. They can be renewed online, in-person, or mailed to the Division of Building Inspection.

2025 renewal and late fee must be paid before your license can be renewed for 2026. If you don't renew for 2025 before December 31, 2025, a new application, payment, and exam will need to be completed.
