RE-TREE Toledo. Restoring Toledo's Beautiful, Cooling Tree Canopy.

RE-TREE Toledo (Restoring and Enhancing Tree Canopy for Resilience, Equity and Engagement in Toledo) is planting thousands of trees where trees are needed most, making Toledo healthier and more beautiful for everyone.

Yes, trees are beautiful. They're also powerful. A flourishing tree canopy means healthier air and cooler streets. With every new tree, we're creating inviting, enduring spaces where kids can play, neighbors can gather, and families can thrive.

We're planting street trees – trees on publicly owned lots and in parks – all in areas of highest need. Would you like to have a tree planted at your home? A limited number of residential trees are available at no cost to you.

People Need Trees

Experts recommend 35-40% tree canopy coverage in our climate. Toledo's canopy covers about 17% – less than half the recommendation.

Benefits of Trees

  • Cool city streets
  • Improve air quality
  • Improve public health
  • Contribute to safer roads
  • Lower crime rates
  • Increase property values
  • Reduce water runoff
  • Reduce energy costs

Trees Need People

RE-TREE Toledo will inspire the next generation of tree champions where more treees are nurtured, more neighborhoods are transformed and everyone enjoys the shade from the canopy above.

Opportunities for Area Teens

A paid workforce training program is available for high school students from designated areas. It's a terrific opportunity for teenagers who want to make a difference, earn money, and receive valuable training that could lead to career opportunities in urban forestry or as arborists.
