Safe streets are designed with everyone in mind. Whether you're driving, walking, biking, using a mobility device, or taking transit, how a street is designed affects how people move and interact.
The City of Toledo uses design strategies to:
- reduce crashes
- calm traffic
- improve visibility
From neighborhhod traffic calming to sidewalks, street trees, and modern intersections, these improvements work together to support safer travel throughout our community.

Converting an intersection with a stop light to a roundabout results in a 78% reduction in fatal and injury crashes.
RoundaboutsMid-Block Crossings
Mid-block crossings reduce jaywalking by offering designated crossing points, minimizing the risk of accidents and improving overall traffic flow. By enhancing pedestrian connectivity, they create more inclusive and efficient urban environments.
Midblock CrossingsTraffic Calming
The City of Toledo uses a number of devices intended to slow traffic, especially in residential areas. Concerned residents may collect petition signatures to initiate a traffic study on their street.
