Ice Storm Delays City Trash Collection by One Day

Tuesday, February 12, 2019

As a result of this morning’s ice storm that continues to create icy and unsafe travel conditions, Republic Services has made the decision to delay trash collection service by one day in order to allow road crews to recover from this most recent weather event.

Republic crews reported for duty this morning at 6 a.m. in preparation to provide service to the Tuesday routes in the City of Toledo. Republic’s operations and Toledo management teams have been monitoring weather and road conditions.

In addition, to ice-covered streets, many trees, power lines, communication lines, and other overhead obstacles are ice covered and hanging dangerously lower than normal. These overhead obstacles are of great safety concern for Republic’s drivers as well as the residents we serve.

As a result, Republic has made the decision to delay collection services in the City of Toledo by one day for the remainder of the week based on the current road conditions and overhead obstacles hanging dangerously lower than normal.

Republic will commence collection services on Wednesday, Feb. 13.

The collection schedule will be as follows:

  • Wednesday February 13, 2019: Collection of regularly scheduled services from the Tuesday collection routes
  • Thursday February 14, 2019: Collection of regularly scheduled services from the Wednesday collection routes
  • Friday February 15, 2019: Collection of regularly scheduled services from the Thursday collection routes
  • Saturday February 16, 2019: Collection of regularly scheduled services from the Friday collection routes

Republic and the city reminds residents that all normal rules and guidelines for collection services remain in place and should be followed as normal. This is only a delay of service for those whose collection day falls on Tuesday – Friday normally.
