New Director of Human Resources

Tyrome Alexander, a certified human resources professional with 20 years of experience in the health care, higher education, and non-profit sectors, has been named director of human resources for the city of Toledo, effective Feb. 25.

Mr. Alexander is currently the human resources director for IMPACT Community Action in Columbus. Mr. Alexander was previously human resources manager for the Columbus Metropolitan Library system, where he was responsible for the library’s benefits and compensation programs, employee relations, performance, talent management, and human resources technology strategy. He also managed the library system’s self-insurance fund.

Mr. Alexander has held various human resources positions at The Ohio State University, including generalist, consultant, administrative manager, and regional campus human resources director.

He has a Bachelor of Arts in political science from The Ohio State University and a Masters of Business Administration from Ohio Dominican University. He is a life member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity and currently serves as executive director of Alpha Phi Alpha, District of Ohio; regional trainer for the fraternity’s Initial Membership Development Program, and previously served as chairman of the Alpha Rho Lambda Education Foundation.

Mr. Alexander is a senior certified human resources professional (SHRM-SCP) through the Society of Human Resources Management and holds Professional in Human Resources (PHR) credentials through the Human Resources Certification Institute (HRCI). He is also a 2018 fellow of the Columbus-based African American Leadership Academy (AALA). His professional memberships include the Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM) and the Human Resources Association of Central Ohio (HRACO). He also serves as an HR Advisory Committee member for HandsOn Central Ohio.
