Mayor Wade Kapszukiewicz and Department of Economic Development Director Brandon Sehlhorst today announced the selection of 24 Vibrancy Initiative projects expected to spur $14.7 million in investment across the city. Thanks to Toledo City Council, the programs received $976,198 in funding in 2025. The Department received a total of 73 applications across the four programs and selected 24 projects for funding.

"The Vibrancy Initiative is proof that smart, strategic investments can drive real transformation. These 24 projects are more than just numbers—they represent renewed hope for our neighborhoods and a clear sign that Toledo’s resurgence is well underway," Mayor Kapszukiewicz said.

Launched in 2021, the Vibrancy Initiative is a robust economic development tool aimed at enhancing Toledo’s vitality through strategic investments in catalytic revitalization projects. These projects focus on job creation, blight reduction, and preservation and improvement of older structures. The initiative includes the Façade Improvement Grant, Façade Improvement Planning Grant, White Box Grant, and White Box Planning Grant programs.

To date, the initiative has invested in 81 projects, leveraging over $100 million of private sector investment. These investments have assisted 29 existing businesses in retaining 560 jobs and attracted 30 new businesses, creating 150 jobs.

"This year’s round of projects shows how targeted public investment can unlock private sector energy and creativity. From long-vacant buildings to active storefronts, the Vibrancy Initiative is investing in real, visible change on Toledo’s commercial corridors," Brandon Sehlhorst, Director of Economic Development, said.
