Mayor Kapszukiewicz and Police Chief Troendle Announce 2025 Year-End Crime Statistics

TOLEDO, OH – Mayor Wade Kapszukiewicz and Toledo Police Department Chief Michael Troendle announced 2025 year-end crime statistics during a press conference at the Safety Building.

Toledo saw major reductions in key crime categories compared with 2024. Robberies fell 26%, thefts from vehicles dropped 23%, burglaries decreased 10%, and incidents of persons shot went down 15%. Homicide levels remained steady at 38.

While City leaders pointed to sustained declines in crime, Mayor Wade Kapszukiewicz said Toledo must also focus on another public safety concern: traffic fatalities. As shootings and other major crimes continue to fall, the City aims to reduce the loss of life on its streets involving vehicles, bicyclists and pedestrians, an issue the Mayor said deserves the same level of attention. In 2025, 24 people were killed in 23 car crashes, highlighting the need for continued efforts to make Toledo’s streets safer.

“While we are so happy that we’ve seen crime go down as much as it has, we are seeing more loss of life on our streets when it comes to the interaction of cars, bicyclists and pedestrians. It is just as heartbreaking, and it is something we have to continue talking about because it affects the safety of our community,” Mayor Wade Kapszukiewicz said.

“The progress we’ve seen in crime reduction reflects the hard work and dedication of our community and law enforcement. As we move forward, we are committed to strengthening partnerships, investing in proven safety strategies, and addressing the root causes of crime. Together, we will create a Toledo that is not only safer but full of opportunity and hope for all residents.”

Chief Troendle highlighted the city’s strategies for reducing crime. “These numbers show that our strategies are working. Through targeted enforcement and community outreach, we are addressing crime at its source and ensuring resources reach the areas that need them most. We will continue building on this progress in 2026,” TPD Chief Troendle said.
