Mayor Kapszukiewicz and Toledo Police Chief Troendle Announce 2026 Mid-Year Crime Statistics

Mayor Kapszukiewicz and Toledo Police Chief Troendle announced the City of Toledo's 2026 mid-year crime statistics during a press conference at the Safety Building, highlighting progress in several key public safety categories while reaffirming the City's commitment to continued enforcement, community partnerships and safer neighborhoods.

"We provide these updates because our community deserves transparency about where we stand, whether the numbers are moving in a positive or negative direction. Fortunately, the first half of this year has shown continued progress, including a 25% reduction in homicides compared to the same period last year," Mayor Kapszukiewicz said.

The Mayor also highlighted the importance of preparation, coordination and partnership in keeping residents safe during major community events.

"This year's Fourth of July celebration was an important opportunity to show what we can accomplish through planning, coordination and partnership. Thanks to the dedication of our police department and our partners, Toledo was able to host one of its largest Fourth of July celebrations with no public safety incidents. Families and residents were able to come together and enjoy the festivities safely. While there is always more work to do, this is an encouraging example of what we can accomplish when we work together," Mayor Kapszukiewicz said.

"There's a lot of work behind these numbers. Every day, our officers are out there responding to calls and working to get ahead of violence before it happens." Chief Troendle said. " We've made progress, but our work isn't finished. We'll be back out there tomorrow doing what we do every day to keep our community safe."
