Peace in Motion: Toledo's Path to Community Safety

The Community Action Table has worked for a year to develop recommendations that will guide the city's decision making for the next five years.

This comprehensive five-year plan is a cross-sector, community engaged-and-owned plan that will guide efforts to address gun violence in Toledo for the next five years.

In pursuit of a safe, vibrant, and engaged Toledo grounded in strong neighborhoods and networks, empowered households, and resilient individuals, we seek to eliminate the root causes of violence.

We are seeking feedback on the draft plan. There is an overview survey to provide comment on the plan as a whole. You can also scroll down to find 5 additional surveys that dive into each of the pillars and recommendations in the plan.

Recommendations

Enhancing the Community Violence Intervention and Prevention Ecosystem

To implement and share evidence-based practices throughout Toledo's CVIP ecosystem so that the work being done to reduce gun violence aligns with best practices; to create a broad coalition of stakeholders committed to this work.

Improving Coordination and Shared Accountability

To ensure that CVIP work happening at all levels, from grassroots to executive, is empowered to contribute their expertise toward a community-wide effort that seeks to fill gaps, avoid duplicated services, and eliminate silos within the CVIP ecosystem.

Fostering Hope and Healing

To provide trauma-informed, healing-centered support to individuals and communities who have experienced gun violence and create services and systems that address common challenges faced by those who are most impacted.

Accessing Opportunities

To ensure that risk factors for experiencing gun violence are replaced with opportunities and other protective factors, which will be designed specifically to meet the needs of those at highest risk of experiencing gun violence.

Building Engaged Neighborhoods and Networks

To empower all levels of the socio-ecological model with tools, resources, and opportunities for meaningful engagement in the work being done to reduce gun violence in Toledo. Key focuses include addressing the intersections of the built environment and violence and the role that networks - whether online, social, or otherwise - play in increasing risk or offering protection against violence.
