As a result of the Downtown Toledo Transportation Study, we are improving connectivity and ensuring downtown Toledo has a safe, efficient, and equitable transportation network.
Beginning on July 19, 2024 the City of Toledo will introduce new traffic patterns on Erie St. (from Jefferson to Cherry) and Michigan Ave. (from Jackson to Jefferson).
These changes will include:
- a new buffered bike lane
- more on-street parking
- reduction of travel lanes (from 3 down to 2)
City crews will work block by block to restripe the pavement for the new traffic pattern. Driving lanes will be reduced from 3 to 2 and flexipost barriers will be installed between the left side street parking lane and a new, interior bike lane. Parked cars will serve as the barrier between bike and car traffic, with the flexiposts reinforcing the parking lane boundary.
What to expect.
We hope to increase opportunities for multi-modal transportation and improve pedestrian safety in alignment with our Vision Zero commitment.
Adding a bike lane will create more connectivity downtown via the Jefferson Cycle track, and the parking and buffer will keep cyclists safe.
