Project Overview
The City of Toledo is constructing a new 72-inch raw water main to carry untreated water form Lake Erie and the Low Service Pump Station to the Collins Park Water Treatment Plant, where it will be treated and distributed to more than 500,000 customers in the region.
The new pipeline will replace the existing 78-inch steel raw water main, which was installed in the 1940s. Recent inspections identified corrosion, leaks, and joint failures which makes replacement the most reliable long-term solution.
The new pipeline will follow the existing transmission corridor, minimizing impacts to surrounding properties while taking advantage of an established utility route. Building the new main alongside the existing pipelines allows Toledo to maintain water system capacity during construction.
Funding
This project is funded through water rates, low-interest loans, and grants (whenever possible).
Project Phases:
$54.9 million – Low Service Pump Station to Curtice Rd
$53.6 million – Curtice Rd. to Wynn Rd.
$50 million – Wynn Rd. to Collins Park
$14.9 million – Collins Park and Pump Station Improvements
Outcomes
When complete this project will:
- Provide a reliable raw water supply for more that 500,000 customers
- Improve Toledo's regional water system
- Create infrastructure expected to serve the community for 100 years
Property Impacts
The new raw water main will generally follow the existing raw water main corridor. The City will identify properties that may require permanent easements or temporary construction access and will work directly with affected property owners. Compensation for easements and other construction related impacts will be addressed in accordance with Ohio law and applicable agreements.
