An Alternate or Irrigation Meter Permit allows the installation of a second water meter that measures water not discharged to the sanitary sewer system.

Additional meters are commonly used for commercial properties, but may also be installed at residential properties for dedicated irrigation systems.

Installation Requirements

Alternate meter installations must meet City of Toledo water distribution standards.

• Proper meter spacing and pipe clearances

Review Process and Timeline

The Alternate or Irrigation Meter Permit application is reviewed by City Staff.

Schedule Inspection

Once the meter setting has been installed by a licensed plumber, the plumber or property owner can schedule an inspection.

Schedule Meter Installation and Update Account

Once the meter setting is approved, you can schedule a time to have your new meter installed by city staff.
