What is a Business Retention & Expansion Program?

The Business Retention & Expansion (BR&E) Program exists to support the companies that call Toledo home. We are committed to helping Toledo businesses succeed by connecting them with the resources, partners, and solutions needed to navigate challenges and foster long-term growth and investment.

Why is the BR&E Program valuable?

The BR&E Program creates a direct line of communication between your business and the City of Toledo. Through direct engagement, we can better understand challenges, identify opportunities, and respond with solutions tailored to your specific needs.

Through BR&E visits, the City can:

• Identify incentives & financing to support expansion
• Resolve infrastructure and city-service challenges
• Help navigate permitting and zoning requirements
• Provide local updates and market insights
• Introduce businesses to strategic partners

Businesses engaged through the program receive a high level of service, along with confidentiality and access to a wide range of resources. Additionally, your feedback helps shape how the City improves policies, programs, and services to better support the business community.

What can a business owner expect in a BR&E visit?

A BR&E visit is a scheduled meeting focused on better understanding your business's operations, goals, opportunities, and challenges while identifying ways to support your continued success. With your permission, partners from state and regional economic development organizations may join to provide additional resources. Information shared during the visit is confidential among those in attendance.

Meetings are typically held at your place of business, at a time most convenient for your team, and often include a tour of the facility to help us better understand your operations. Following the visit, we will coordinate any resources, solutions, or introductions identified during the meeting and remain available for continued communication and future meetings as needed.
