The Final Occupancy Inspection is required before a building can be occupied. It ensures that all fire and safety systems in a building are properly installed, operational, and comply with Toledo's building and fire codes.

A Final Occupancy Inspection must be complete before a Certificate of Occupancy can be issued.

The Final Occupancy Inspection will evaluate:

  • All fire protection systems are installed, functional, and compliant
  • Means of egress are clear, illuminated, and accessible
  • Fire Department access and building identification are clearly marked
  • Occupants can safely exit the building in an emergency

Requirements

Building Address Numbers can be read from the street, are posted in an approved location (Ohio Fire Code 505.1), and are at least 4" tall and .5" wide with a contrasting background.

Key or Knox Box contains all required keys, cards, fobs or access devices and is in an approved location.

Occupant Load is verified and posted near the main exit.

Fire Extinguishers are placed as they were approved in the construction plans. Fire extinguishers must also be visible, unobstructed and have any required signage.
