Locks Save Lives: Free Gun Lock Giveaway

The City of Toledo is committed to building safer neighborhoods for every resident. As part of that commitment, Toledo City Council is launching Locks Save Lives, a community-wide initiative to promote responsible firearm storage.

Through a partnership with the VA Ann Arbor Healthcare System, the Toledo/Lucas County Public Library, and Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, free cable gun locks will be available at all Toledo Lucas County Public Library locations.

Why This Matters

Firearm-related injuries are the leading cause of death for children and teens ages 1–19, surpassing motor vehicle crashes in 2020 and remaining the top cause in the years since. The majority of these deaths are preventable. Safe firearm storage is one of the most effective ways to prevent accidental shootings, youth access to firearms, and gun theft.

Gun deaths among children rose between 2019 and 2020.

These numbers reflect real families and real communities. They underscore the importance of taking simple, proactive steps to reduce risk and protect lives.
