Mayor Kapszukiewicz to meet with Ohio's congressional delegation about Lake Erie and toxic algae

Toledo Mayor Wade Kapszukiewicz will join members of the Ohio Environmental Council in Washington D.C. this week to speak with members of Ohio's congressional delegation about Lake Erie and toxic algae.

Mayor Kapszukiewicz on Thursday, March 8 will join Kristy Meyer, Ohio Environmental Council vice president of natural resources; Sarah Spence, government affairs director, and other members of the council’s “Healing Our Waters Coalition” in Washington.

Mayor Kapszukiewicz’s trip coincides with Great Lakes Day being held in Washington.

There is no cost to the city for the mayor’s trip.

“On Great Lakes Day, I'm eager to work with Mayor Kapszukiewicz to help him share his message with Ohio’s congressional delegation about the importance of Lake Erie to Ohio’s economy and the quality of life of millions of Ohioans,” Ms. Meyer said. “We can’t afford to cut vital programs like the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative, water infrastructure funding, and Farm Bill conservation programs. We are calling on our congressional members to be the reasonable voice and restore funding for these vital efforts, because every day we wait, the problems become more complex and the solutions more costly.”
