Friday, October 25, 2024

The City of Toledo is submitting a grant application to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (U.S. EPA) for a $500,000 Brownfield Community Wide Assessment grant. Brownfields are vacant, abandoned, or underutilized properties that have real or perceived environmental complication.

If awarded, this grant will be utilized to update the local brownfield inventory, assess sites with hazardous substances and petroleum contamination, prepare risk assessments, and develop reuse plans at sites within three target areas within the City of Toledo. Sites outside the target area are also eligible for funding.

The application is due November 14, 2024 and awards will likely be announced in spring 2025. The City has received 24 U.S. EPA brownfield grants worth $9.4 million since 1997, including three previous assessments grants. A draft of the application will be available for public comment and review on October 25, 2024 and comments must be submitted by November 8, 2024.
