Brownfield Community Wide Assessment Grant Application
The City of Toledo is submitting a grant application to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (U.S. EPA) for a $500,000 Brownfield Community Wide Assessment grant. Brownfields are vacant, abandoned, or underutilized properties that have real or perceived environmental complication.
If awarded, this grant will be utilized to update the local brownfield inventory, assess sites with hazardous substances and petroleum contamination, prepare risk assessments, and develop reuse plans at sites within three target areas within the City of Toledo. Sites outside the target area are also eligible for funding.
The application is due January 28, 2026 and awards will likely be announced in June 2026. The City has received 24 U.S. EPA brownfield grants worth $9.4 million since 1997, including three previous assessments grants.
