High Volume of Sinkhole Reports, More Rain Expected

Thursday, May 15, 2025

Following last night’s storm, the City of Toledo is currently responding to a high volume of sinkhole reports, along with other water-related emergencies, including water in the basement.

With additional rainfall expected tonight, we are urging residents to call Engage Toledo at 419-936-2020, any time of day or night, to report water-related concerns such as sinkholes, water in the basement, or street flooding.

Calling promptly is essential. When you speak with a call taker, they may need to ask follow-up questions to help assess the severity of the issue and ensure the right response is prioritized.

Once a call is received, the concern is dispatched to the on-duty foreman, and a crew is assigned to investigate. Crews may not knock on your door when responding if the issue is located in the street or public right-of-way. Residents can request updates by contacting Engage Toledo after the initial investigation is complete.

The complexity of each repair can vary based on the size and depth of the sinkhole and whether nearby utilities are affected. In some cases, repairs must wait until other utility work is completed or a contractor can be brought in. Road restoration will be done once the repairs are completed.

Our crews are working around the clock to investigate and resolve each issue as quickly and safely as possible. We appreciate the public’s patience as we continue to address these concerns.
