"The Swayne Field Pop-Up Produce Market will give residents in a food desert greater access to affordable, nutritious food in a welcoming setting close to home," Rosalyn Clemens, chief of housing and neighborhood sustainability, said. "This is the revitalization work we want to be doing in our NRSA neighborhoods, ensuring residents have access to the resources they need to be healthy and well."
The pilot program is part of a broader effort to increase access to affordable, nutritious food, support local and regional growers, strengthen neighborhood connections and activate the Swayne Field redevelopment site.
Al Peake & Sons, a Toledo-based food distributor with more than 75 years of experience, will oversee market operations, including produce sourcing, transportation, staffing and food safety.
"The goal is to make fresh food more accessible while creating a welcoming space for residents to gather and shop close to home," Philip Peake, president of AL Peake & Sons Food Service, said.
