Mayor Kapszukiewicz and Friends Celebrated Opening Day of the Ottawa Park Ice Rink

Friday, January 07, 2022

Mayor Wade Kapszukiewicz laced up his skates and hit the ice to celebrate this season’s opening day at the Ottawa Park Ice Rink, the only open-air ice rink in Northwest Ohio & Southeast Michigan, on Friday, January 7, 2022.

Spike, from the Walleye, was on hand for a puck drop with members of the 3X state championship hockey team from St. Francis de Sales and the NWO Arctic Wolves sled hockey team.

Adding to the excitement was the introduction of two new adaptive ice sleds which are designed for inclusivity and providing accessibility to the ice for all!

Stuart James, Executive Director of the Ability Center, took a spin around the ice with the Mayor to demonstrate that skaters of all abilities can have fun this winter at the Ottawa Park Ice Rink.

“I had a lot of fun out on the ice today. I hope our residents take the opportunity this winter to enjoy a safe, affordable and fun session at Ottawa Park’s open-air ice rink,” Mayor Wade Kapszukiewicz said. “Adding two new adaptive sleds ensures that all of our residents have access to the winter activities that our city parks offer.”

The Ottawa Park Ice Rink will follow Covid guidelines throughout the season.
