Update on Arlington Sewer Collapse and Related Overflows

Monday, June 16, 2025

Following Friday night’s rainfall, the City’s sewer system experienced additional strain due to elevated wet weather flow. All three bypass pumps at Arlington—12”, 6”, and 4”—were running continuously overnight with a combined capacity of approximately 7 million gallons per day. Despite these efforts, the system could not keep up with the increased volume, leading to two temporary sewer overflows into Delaware Creek: one at Yaryan Drive and another at Sherwood Avenue and Detroit.

Crews responded immediately, and as of 3:30 p.m. Saturday, all overflows had been stopped. There were no additional overflows into Swan Creek.

Water sampling is being performed today, and results will be available tomorrow. While bacteria levels remain under monitoring, the overall amount of contamination in both creeks has dropped significantly over the last couple weeks, contributing to improved conditions and reduced odor.

We continue to fulfill all Ohio EPA requirements and appreciate the public’s patience as we work to stabilize the system and begin long-term repairs in early July.
