In late 2024, two sinkholes appeared on Arlington Ave. Although there is already a reconstruction project scheduled for 2026, the City of Toledo is performing emergency work on the sanitary sewer to fix the sinkholes in early 2025. Following the sanitary sewer repair, the City will begin replacing the waterline.
Road Closure
Arlington Ave. will be closed from west of Francis Ave. to Woodsdale Ave.
The alleyway between Francis Ave. and National Ave. has been barricaded at National Ave. Crews will be working on the sanitary sewer in the alleyway in the coming weeks. All traffic should detour to Wilton St. and avoid the alleyway.
Happening Now
Bids for the emergency sanitary sewer repair closed on February 25, and we received one bid from E.R. Zailer Excavating, Inc. for $21,040,800–which was rejected.
The City is seeking quotes for a smaller scale investigation project. The sewer is 45 feet deep and 4 feet wide, which makes it a complicated repair. The investigation will help us find the most efficient way to complete the projects.
We hope to begin the investigative project in late March or early April, then the City will put the full sewer project up for bid again. Although we had hoped to complete these repairs now, we are doing our due diligence to ensure the work is done right and within our budget.
Project Overview
The City will reconstruct Arlington Ave. from South Detroit Ave. to Spencer St. in 2026. We will remove and replace the road, drive aprons, and curbs. We will add bumpouts for on-street parking.
