Family Forum on Gun Violence

The Toledo Human Relations Commission will host a family forum on gun violence from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 12 at the New Life Center, Bethlehem Baptist Church, 1430 West Bancroft St.

Marcel McClinton, an 18-year-old activist from Houston, Texas and co-founder of March for Our Lives Houston, will lead a panel discussion with community leaders and their children on gun violence. Mr. McClinton has traveled across the United States with student activists from Parkland, Chicago, St. Louis, and Milwaukee to hold town hall meetings and rallies, to register voters, and to connect communities nationwide. Panelists include Toledo Mayor Wade Kapszukiewicz, his daughter, Emma; Toledo Local Initiatives Support Corporation Executive Director Kim Cutcher, and her son; Bishop Randall Parker, and his son Caleb; and James Jefferson, and his son Jaden.

Families with children of all ages are encouraged to attend. A light breakfast will be served. The event is free and open to the public but registration is required. For more information, please call 419-245-1518 or email HRCexec@toledo.oh.gov.

The media is also invited to attend a student-only forum from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., Friday, Oct. 11 at Woodward High School, 701 East Central Ave. Mr. McClinton will meet with Toledo Public Schools students during that time. Mr. McClinton is available for interviews from 9 a.m. to 10:15 a.m.
