How to appeal a code violation.

10 day deadline.

Your entire appeal package must be received in Building Inspection and Code Compliance within 10 days of you receiving your notice. We'll go by the post-marked date on the envelope of a mailed letter.

If you miss the 10 day deadline, and you still want to appeal the decision, you will have to file an injunction or civil suit against the City of Toledo.

File the form and pay the fee.

The best way to file an appeal is in person at One Government Center suite 1800 between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Other options are to email the 30 Day Notice Appeal Form and mail the payment, or mail the form and payment together to the Department of Building and Code Compliance.

No matter which method you choose, the 30 Day Notice Appeal Form and a cash bond or money order of $50.00 to the Department of Building and Code Compliance at One Government Center suite 1800 to file your appeal. You may email the form, or mail the form and payment together, but the entire appeal package must be received within 10 days.

Attend the hearing.

Once your appeal is complete, you will receive a hearing date. At the hearing, the Nuisance Abatement Appeals Board will review your case and decide whether or not the code violations exist on your property.
