George Sarantou

Council Member, At-Large

Councilman George Sarantou was elected to his council seat in November 2021 and again in November 2025. He serves as the Chair of the Finance, Debt & Budget Oversight Committee of City Council. He is also a member of the Economic Development & Innovation Committee, the Public Safety & Criminal Justice Reform Committee, the Transportation Committee, and the Zoning & Planning Committee.

In January 2026, Councilman Sarantou became the Chair of the Lake Erie West Regional Council (LEWRC), formerly known as the Toledo Metropolitan Area Council of Governments (TMACOG). To learn more about LEWRC, click here.

George is a graduate of DeVilbiss High School, Ohio State University, and a lifelong resident of Lucas County. George has spent much of his career in public service, including 12 yrs on Toledo City Council, over 3 years as Toledo’s Director of Finance, and 3 yrs as a Court Administrator with the Lucas County Probate Court. George and his wife Barbara have been married for 39 yrs and have raised 3 daughters and 5 grandchildren in the Toledo community.
