Vanice S. Williams
Council Member, District 4
Councilwoman Vanice S. Williams is currently the owner and administrator for First Light Child Care Center, an early learning center for children ages 6 weeks to 11 years old. Born and raised in Toledo, Vanice has held several positions in the city in various fields, from Toledo Head Start, Volunteers of America, Chrysler, St. Vincent Medical Center, Mercy Health Partners, Ella P. Stewart Academy for Girls, an Assistant Program Officer for Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC), a consultant for Toledo Public Schools, prior to TPS she was a principal for Life Skills High School of Toledo, a Dropout Recovery Program for 4.5 years. She worked at the school for a total of 10 years in several positions. To help the youth more she made the hard decision to leave the career at the school to become a consultant and ultimately open her childcare center in July of 2020. Currently she holds the seat of District 4 Toledo City Council. Her plans for her time on City Council includes help create lasting programs for our youth that are impactful to change.
Vanice is the daughter of Shelia E. Patterson and has 4 siblings, Nichole Newson-Varnell, Cortney Patterson, Loreal Williams-Cothran, and Van Williams. She has one daughter, Faith. Vanice attributes much of her accomplishments to the support of her family who has always supported her.
Vanice’s passion for her community and youth comes from her foundation in God and her own inner city upbringing. She truly is a story of perseverance and service through hard work and dedication to being a great mother to Faith, and servant to her community, family and friends. Vanice has held an Ohio Principal License, Ohio teaching license, Real Estate License, Master in the Art of Teaching, and bachelor’s in business marketing.
Councilwoman Williams is Chair of the Parks, Education, Recreation & Health Committee, Vice Chair of the Public Safety & Criminal Justice Reform Committee, and is a member of the Intergovernmental & Administrative Services Committee, Housing & Community Development Committee, and the Zoning & Planning Committee.
