A permit is required for both new systems and alterations to existing systems. This ensures that your system meets safety standards and functions properly in the event of an emergency.


Permits are typically needed for:

  • New fire alarm installations in commercial or multifamily buildings
  • Adding or relocating devices like smoke detectors or pull stations
  • System upgrades that change wiring, panel capacity, or monitoring
  • Changes required due to building renovations or occupancy changes

Get Ready

All fire alarm work must be performed by a licensed contractor and comply with applicable fire and building codes. After installation, the system must pass inspection and testing to confirm it operates correctly.

Fees

All Permit application fees are $100. All applications and reviews are charged an additional 3% surcharge for the State of Ohio.
