About the Film

After nearly a decade covering international conflicts, including the Russia-Ukraine war, for The Associated Press, 20 DAYS IN MARIUPOL is Mstyslav Chernov’s first feature film. The 94-minute film draws on Chernov’s daily news dispatches and personal footage of his own country at war. It offers a vivid, harrowing account of civilians caught in the siege, as well as a window into what it’s like to report from a conflict zone, and the impact of such journalism around the globe. The riveting documentary features an AP team of Ukrainian journalists trapped in the besieged city of Mariupol who struggle to continue their work documenting atrocities of the Russian invasion. As the only international reporters who remain in the city, they capture what later become defining images of the war: dying children, mass graves, the bombing of a maternity hospital, and more.

About Toledo Helps Ukraine

Toledo Helps Ukraine is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that mobilized immediately following Russia’s inhumane attack on Ukraine. THU has raised awareness, over $90,000 in funds, and shipped thousands of pounds of humanitarian aid directly to the Ukrainian people. In addition, Alona Matchenko, co-founder of Toledo Helps Ukraine, completed a mission trip to Ukraine in May and June of 2022. She returned with first-hand knowledge of the greatest needs of the country and its people. Toledo Helps Ukraine has also relocated 18 Ukrainian families to the United States (a total of 59 individuals), most in the Northwest Ohio area, providing them with sponsors, and, most importantly, an escape from the horrors of a deadly war for their children.
