Sustainable Planting and the Benefits of Native Plants
Native plants grow in the region naturally without human intervention. Those plants have adapted to our specific climate and can withstand the hot, cold, wet and windy conditions that we see each year.
Native plants help us build and maintain more sustainable landscapes. They increase the pollinator population and reduce water runoff which helps to keep our streams, rivers, and bay cleaner.
Some common native plants for the Toledo area include purple coneflower, black eyed susan, swamp milkweed, bee balm, and phlox.
