Reimagining the Systems that Shape Care, Culture & Community

Organized by Women of Toledo, the 9th Annual International Women’s Day Luncheon will convene employers, funders, policymakers, entrepreneurs, and community leaders to examine a critical workforce and economic issue: the intersection of work and caregiving. While women across the workforce, including mothers and caregivers, are deeply engaged in paid employment and business ownership, many workplace and economic systems remain misaligned with caregiving realities. By focusing on individual balance or resilience, these challenges are often mischaracterized when data and lived experience show they are structural in nature, shaped by childcare access, pay inequity, workplace culture, and limited advancement and entrepreneurship pathways.

“For too long, we’ve focused on how individuals manage it all. Today, we ask a different question: What systems are out of alignment and who bears the cost?”

This forum reframes work and caregiving as a shared responsibility and a strategic economic priority. Through cross-sector dialogue, the panel will explore how systems can be redesigned so working women and caregivers do not have to succeed in spite of existing structures, but because of them, recognizing that this is not solely a women’s issue, but a workforce, economic, and community issue. By centering accountability, innovation, and action, the 2026 International Women’s Day Luncheon positions Northwest Ohio as a leader in inclusive workforce design and equitable economic growth, demonstrating that investing in supportive systems strengthens
individuals, businesses, and local economies alike.
