Tree City USA Honor Tomorrow; Arbor Day Tree Planting, 2 p.m. April 27

The city of Toledo will again be recognized as a Tree City USA tomorrow, April 18, during a ceremony in Upper Sandusky, Ohio. A representative from Toledo’s Parks, Recreation, and Forestry division will be present to accept the award.

“This is an honor for the city of Toledo and shows our commitment to green space,” said Paul Rasmusson, Toledo Public Service director.

The state of Ohio leads the nation in Tree City USA communities. There are four standards that must be met to be recognized: quality tree care; a tree board responsible for trimming, planting, and removals; a tree ordinance; a budget of at least $2 per capita, and an Arbor Day Observance.

Toledo Mayor Wade Kapszukiewicz will observe Arbor Day by planting trees at 2 p.m. Friday, April 27, with students from Burroughs Elementary School at Burroughs Park, 2378 Dana St. The media is invited to attend the tree planting at Burroughs Park.
