Public Meeting on Downtown Toledo Transportation Plan to be held May 22

The city of Toledo will hold a public meeting on the Downtown Toledo Transportation Plan, 5:30 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, May 22 at the SeaGate Convention Centre, Room 104. It is the first of three public meetings.

The Kapszukiewicz administration is seeking public input on the plan which will take a comprehensive look at the transportation elements of downtown and assess how to enhance economic development and residential space. The plan will examine motor vehicle traffic, pedestrian traffic, public transit, and biking.

“The Downtown Transportation Plan will help Toledo develop an all-inclusive vision for a more complete and integrated transportation system that meets the needs for all travelers,” said Stephanie Bartlett, Professional Engineer, Toledo Division of Transportation. “Through the public involvement process with stakeholders, community leaders, and Toledo residents, we can develop a plan to account for the changes happening downtown while maintaining an efficient street network and encouraging transit use, walking, and cycling.”

Mannik & Smith Group Inc., a local engineering firm, was awarded a $249,488 contract to evaluate the existing traffic flow and future proposed traffic patterns while accounting for pedestrians, cyclists, and transit users to enhance the development potential downtown. The study is expected to take about a year to complete.
