Toledo City Council voted Tuesday to allocate up to $1 million from the Capital Improvement Fund for a new interchange on I-475 at Dorr Street and to authorize cooperative agreements between the city and the Ohio Department of Transportation for the project.

“The city of Toledo is working the state and the county to make this improvement that will open up a corridor to new commerce and transportation,” Mayor Wade Kapszukiewicz said. “This project is among the many investments we are making right now to improve our infrastructure in Toledo.”

ODOT identified a need for the interchange. The Lucas County Engineer’s Office will be responsible for engineering design, which is currently underway. ODOT will acquire all necessary rights of way for the project and will administer the construction of the interchange and improvements on Dorr Street, both within and outside Toledo’s city limit.

The project will include all ramps, connections to and from I-475 to Dorr Street, and widening Dorr Street from Holland-Sylvania to McCord Road intersection approaches.

The Lucas County commissioners on Tuesday approved a resolution to establish a joint cooperation agreement with the city for the interchangeproject.

Council Tuesday also approved accepting the 44th Year CDBG funds totaling $7,457,293, the 32nd Year ESG funds totaling $606,390, and the 27th Year HOME funds totaling $2,245,266.

In other business, council approved allocating up to $55,000 to fund up to one third of the cost for Phase Two of a Lake Erie Economic Impact Analysis and a Western Lake Erie Report Card and to enter into an agreement with the Lake Erie Foundation. The city of Toledo, the city of Oregon, and Lucas County will each provide funding for one-third the cost of the project.
