The Toledo Christmas Weed Cleanup

Friday, December 28, 2018

A Cub Scout and a Girl Scout troop will clean up “The Christmas Weed” site at 1 p.m., tomorrow, Saturday, Dec. 29.

The Cub Scout Troop is pack 41 from McGregor Elementary and the Girl Scout Troop is #11099 from St. Clement School.

The City of Toledo, in partnership with Keep Toledo/Lucas County Beautiful, provided donation bins at the site of the viral sensation at the corner of Secor and Alexis roads in West Toledo. Donations of non-perishable food, winter outwear, shoes, and other items were accepted and distributed to a variety of local charitable organizations.

City officials urge caution from drivers near area during the cleanup. Toledo Police officers will be present to ensure the children are safe from traffic.

“This has been a wonderful display of Christmas spirit in our community and a lot of fun for everyone who participated,” Mayor Wade Kapszukiewicz said. “I want to thank the Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts for their work tomorrow afternoon cleaning up the decorations that remain at the site as we close out the holiday season.”
