The City of Toledo's Housing and Community Development Department is excited to announce opportunities for two dedicated individuals to serve as AmeriCorps volunteers. This is a unique opportunity to make a difference in Toledo while gaining valuable experience and skills in community development. Applicants do not have to currently be AmeriCorps Volunteers.

Position Details

  • Volunteer Period: 11 months, starting early May 2024.
  • Hours: Volunteers must complete 1700 hours of service
  • Stipend: $21,000 for the duration of service

Volunteers receive healthcare benefits through LISC with a $0 premium.

Educational Award

Upon completion of 1700 hours, volunteers can receive an Educational Award of up to $6,895. This award can be used to pay federal student loans or for future educational endeavors.

Class Hours Conversion

College students, especially those majoring in fields such as Political Science or Public Administration, may be able to apply up to 20% of their class hours toward the 1700 service hours. Approval from DHCD is required.

Main Duties Include, but are not Limited to:

  • Non-academic research
  • Survey distribution and compilation
  • Process mapping
  • Form and document creation
  • Data analysis using spreadsheets and formulas
  • Data entry
  • Community assessment
  • Community resident engagement
  • Assisting with planning and recruiting for community events

As the NRSA Coordinator, the AmeriCorps volunteer will be assisting me with the gathering, recording, and reporting data about the activities taking place in the NRSAs,” Eric Scott, NRSA Coordinator, said.

“Their duties will also include the tracking warehouse or commercial properties, and disseminating information to various organizations and stakeholders. We are looking for this person to grow in their professional development and understanding federal and local programs available to citizens of Toledo.”
