Grants are awarded based on available funds and the following:
- The applicant meets all eligibility requirements.
- The professional development opportunity is completed within the funding period.
- The submitted application is complete and includes required budget information, appropriate documentation, and required signatures.
- The application proposal demonstrates benefits to ALL of the following: the individual/group, the individual’s/group’s department/division, and the City of Toledo as a whole.
Eligible Uses
- Registration fees for conferences and seminars
- GED classes
- Tuition costs for certification or re-certification
- Books and materials for courses
- Online workshops or webinars
- Expenses to provide development opportunities to multiple people, including units, organizations or groups, such as speaker fees, location costs or material cost.
Requirements
- Must be a full-time employee with at least 2 years of service with the city and current department.
- Must have satisfactory job performance (in consultation with your supervisor).
- No disciplinary activity within the past year.
- Proposed grant must be aligned to current skill or career enhancement. It should help the employee expand in their current role or prepare for an opportunity within their next job series.
- Must have Supervisor or Manager approval.
- Employee may not be receiving tuition reimbursement from the City of Toledo in conjunction with this grant.
Please note:
- Applicants who have not previously received a grant are given priority consideration. Retroactive funding is not provided.
- Employees currently participating in the City’s Tuition Assistance Program are not eligible to participate in the Employee Development Grant Program.
