Sewer Flushing in Progress

At 9:30 a.m., March 26, the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency alerted the City of Toledo to a possible hazardous chemical situation at Global Chemical Resources, 719 Brown Ave.

The Toledo Fire & Rescue Department and Toledo Department of Public Utilities responded. During the initial investigation it was deemed that no immediate hazard was present. Initial water and air samplings have come back negative for any harmful chemicals. The wastewater treatment plant has not detected any abnormal readings.

No harmful concentration levels of chemicals were detected in the sewer, however the city is completing a detailed chemical analysis, and will notify residents as soon as results are known. As a precaution, the city is flushing the sewer system. This potential incident does not affect drinking water. Drinking water remains safe.

The area potentially affected is bounded by Brown, Nebraska, North Detroit, and Avondale.
