City of Toledo Secures $250,000 in Grants for City Parks

TOLEDO, OH – The City of Toledo has secured two prestigious Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) grants for Toledo city parks totaling more than a quarter of a million dollars.

ODNR’s 2023 Recreational Trails Program, in collaboration with the Federal Highway Administration, awarded Toledo $150,000 for the Ottawa and Jermain Park Loop Trail. The project aims to reconstruct two sections of the trail and conduct crack filling and resealing for another section of the paved trail in the adjacent Ottawa and Jermain Parks. These trail segments are currently heavily deteriorated, and the grant will play a crucial role in revitalizing these recreational spaces.

ODNR’s NatureWorks grant, totaling $100,680, will provide funding for phase one of the Detwiler Park Baseball Complex renovation. This project will regrade the infield, install drainage tiles, and renovate the press box building and restrooms at one of two “clover leaf” configured baseball complexes in the city.

“These grants, totaling more than $250,000, allow us to not only invest in the facilities but in the health and well-being of our residents. Physical activity, community engagement, and enhancing outdoor recreational opportunities are critical components for a safe and inclusive city,” Mayor Wade Kapszukiewicz said. “We are grateful to ODNR for their recognition and support. These projects reflect our dedication to creating sustainable and accessible outdoor spaces for all Toledo residents.”
