Passage of 2024 Budgets and Two Appointments to Toledo City Council
Toledo City Council unanimously passed the 2024 Operating and Capital Budgets this evening in two 10-0 votes.
“Preparing and passing a balanced and respectable annual City budget is no small task,” said Councilman George Sarantou, Chair of the Finance, Debt and Budget Oversight Committee. “Thank you to the Administration and my colleagues for a thoughtful and thorough process.”
Annually the Mayor is responsible for presenting a proposed budget to the Council and in response, Council will review, amend, and pass the budget before the end of March.
In addition to the passage of the budget, Toledo City Council selected two at-large candidates out of 37 applicants to fill the vacancies left by Katie Moline and Dr. Tiffany Preston Whitman. They are:
- Dr. Brittany D. Jones
Evaluation & Survey Analyst, United Way of Greater Toledo - Macgregor (Mac) W. Driscoll
Urban Planner, ConnecToledo
“I am confident that the two appointed members will serve our City residents with care and hard work,” said Council President Carrie Hartman. “Thank you to all who applied. I hope those who did not receive this appointment continue to be involved in our community and city – we need you.”
These two at-large members will need to complete the necessary requirements to appear on the November 2024 ballot to keep their seats. They will then have an opportunity to run in 2025 with all at-large members in the regular election cycle.
