RE-TREE Toledo Workforce Development Program

This isn't just a summer job. It's an opportunity to learn real-world skills, work outdoors, and earn while you learn. If you're a high school student living in a designated area, this Workforce Training Program from RE-TREE Toledo could be your chance to work 25 hours a week and gain hands-on experience that could lead to a future in urban forestry or arboriculture.

Young Artists at Work

Since 1994, Young Artists at Work (YAAW) has offered paid summer apprenticeships to area teens to learn creative skills and job skills alike and to connect to the community through the creation of public art and saleable works. Each year, more than 40 teens from diverse neighborhoods and communities in and around Toledo come together to find a completely unique summer employment opportunity and access to an experience designed to impact them for a lifetime. The application deadline is typically mid-March.

BUGG - Broadway Urban Garden and Greenspace

Urban gardening is a large part of what we do. With over 60 beds of produce and 11 beehives we dedicate time and resources to protecting greenspace while advocating for healthy and local eating.

Upward Bound

Upward Bound is an academic pre-college program for disadvantaged low-income and/or first-generation students that provides nine months of academic tutoring to high school students grades 9-12. The program begins the second week after school starts in September and concludes in June. Students visit the campus regularly to receive academic tutoring in all subject areas.

Young Executive Scholars (Y.E.S.) Program

The University of Toledo’s Y.E.S. Program is a collaboration between UToledo’s Neff College of Business and Innovation and Jones Leadership Academy of Business (JLAB) in Toledo, Ohio. The program was established in 2017 to help cultivate the academic potential of underrepresented students, preparing them for success in higher education. Each academic year, junior and senior students from JLAB participate in monthly workshops that cover leadership development, real-life business etiquette, and college prep skills. These involve powerful mentorship relationships.
