Grass Cutting Begins April 24

The city of Toledo’s grass cutting program for vacant and nuisance properties starts Wednesday, April 24 with 117 “grass cutting partners” who have been hired through the Department of Neighborhood and Business Development.

The city this year has increased its partnership with the Lucas County Land Bank to more efficiently cut grass at vacant and nuisance properties. The city and the land bank are using some of the same grass cutting partners and have aligned workloads so shared partners are working in the same neighborhoods.

“We are putting renewed energy and attention toward making grass maintenance common sense for residents,” said Amy Sackman Odum, Neighborhood and Business Development Director. “The city and the land bank are stepping in to cut lots of grass that should have been done already by property owners. Grass cutting is a perennial challenge and the cost falls to taxpayers. The city makes every effort to hold property owners responsible.”

Grass cutting in city parks also begins this week by city Parks, Recreation, and Forestry employees and contractors.

Property owners are reminded not to let grass clippings blow into roads or walkways because the grass blades can cause problems for sewers and waterways.
