City of Toledo’s Free Children Feeding Program Begins June 1

The City of Toledo’s free summer lunch program for children begins Monday, June 1.

Free lunch will be served in five city parks from June 1 to Aug. 14 through a partnership with the Children’s Hunger Alliance. Children’s Hunger Alliance staff will be at the following parks, Monday through Friday:

  • Wilson Park, 600 East Oakland St., Toledo, Ohio 43608, underneath open air shelter, 11 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.
  • Navarre Park, 1001 White St., Toledo, Ohio 43605, pool house/parking lot, 12:15 p.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Ottawa Park, 2200 Kenwood Blvd., Toledo, Ohio 43606, underneath open air shelter, 12:15 p.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Savage Park, 650 Nebraska Ave., Toledo, Ohio 43604, underneath open air shelter, 1:30 p.m. to 2:15 p.m.
  • Walbridge Park, 2761 Broadway, Toledo, Ohio 43609, underneath open air shelter, 2:45 p.m. to 3:45 p.m.

Toledo Mayor Wade Kapszukiewicz will help kick off the summer program in person at 12:15 p.m., Monday at Navarre Park.

Founded in 1970, Children’s Hunger Alliance is a statewide nonprofit organization dedicated to ending childhood hunger in Ohio. Through their work, Children’s Hunger Alliance provides healthy meals and snacks to food-insecure children, advocates for legislation to improve the welfare of Ohio’s youngest citizens, and teaches nutrition and physical education to those they serve.

In addition to the city’s free lunch program, children can receive free meals this summer through Connecting Kids To Meals, which has set up 16 sites where children can access healthy, free meals. More information on that program can be found at www.ConnectingKidsToMeals.org.
