First 'Home at Last' Home Closing

Tuesday, August 18, 2020

City of Toledo Neighborhoods Director Rosalyn Clemens will help celebrate the first closing as a result of the “Home at Last Program,” which offers down payment assistance for eligible first-time homebuyers, during a ceremony with Maumee Valley Habitat for Humanity at 20 Dunderry Lane at 5 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 20.

Members of the media are invited to attend the ceremony. The program was launched in June to commemorate National Homeownership Month.

“We are thrilled to help Donald Singer become a homeowner for the first time, and more thrilled that he has decided like so many others that Toledo is a wonderful place to purchase a home,” Ms. Clemens said. “First-time homebuyers whose income falls below the threshold are eligible for up to $7,500 to use toward the purchase of a home, and up to $9,500 in target neighborhoods. The program is designed to help income-eligible residents who have never owned a home get over the finish line with down payment and closing assistance. We are striving to make sure eligible residents have access to the American Dream of
homeownership. Congratulations to the Home at Last Program application team for completing the approval and closing in 15 days!”

Toledo Mayor Wade Kapszukiewicz said: “The Home at Last Program is another tool this administration is using to assist our residents, and to create and sustain healthy neighborhoods. This program followed the implementation of the Emergency Microenterprise Recovery Grant to aid in the economic recovery of microenterprises negatively impacted by COVID-19 and the Emergency Rental Assistance Fund to help renters.”

“At Maumee Valley Habitat for Humanity, we know that all of our homes are affordable, as we sell homes with zero percent interest loans, but the down payment assistance available through the Home at Last Program provides needed support to first-time homebuyers that makes homeownership even more affordable,” said Mike McIntyre, Maumee Valley Habitat for Humanity executive director. “In the past we have helped our homebuyers apply for down payment assistance, but with the Home at Last
efficiencies, homebuyers can close on and move into their homes ever sooner. It’s a great partnership.”
