Virtual Water Affordability Public Meeting

The City of Toledo Department of Public Utilities will hold a virtual water affordability public meeting at 5:30 p.m., Wednesday, April 28.

The City of Toledo is preparing a Water Affordability Plan. The purpose of the plan is to develop a way to ensure that water and sewer service is available, and that all Toledo residents have access without feeling the need to make trade-offs between paying for water service and paying for other basic household necessities, Public Utilities Director Ed Moore said.

“The purpose of the public input session is to have a conversation about water affordability in Toledo,” Mr. Moore said. “We will explain the development of the Water Affordability Plan to date and provide insights into what we have found with respect to water burdens in Toledo.”

Residents will be asked for feedback on difficulties they face regarding water bills, and what they feel would help them retain the service without financial problems.

“We want to speak with people who have had difficulties either paying their water bills or paying for other basic household necessities in addition to their water bills,” Mr. Moore said. “This includes tenants who may have lease provisions through which they are required to pay water bills on a dollar-for-dollar basis, even though the water bill may be in the landlord's name.”

Residents are also asked to take a short, anonymous survey posted at toledo.oh.gov/water.

“Whether you have struggled to pay your water bill, have concerns about water affordability, or just want to share your feedback, we want to hear from you,” Mr. Moore said.
